Cory Baker, J&E Restaurant Supply Bakersfield, CA
Cory has been with J&E for three and a half years. He started working for his father-in-law, Alfredo Lorenzo, owner of J&E Restaurant Supply while going to night school for HVAC – R. Initially, he worked in receiving at J&E. When an opportunity for a sales position came up, he jumped all over it and asked for chance to pursue it. He was ready for the challenge and felt very grateful for the opportunity.
Cory’s current responsiblities include a little of everything. He works with walk-in customers, schools, prisons, hospitals and accounts. He also does kitchen design and works with the health department on floor plans. Cory is a ServSafe proctor. He teaches both ServSafe Manager and California Food Handler classes at J & E. He is currently enrolled in classes to learn the fine details of Autocad.
Cory says he learns so much at J&E. With every endeavor or job he takes on he wants to know everything he can about it. He says, “I love learning and I feel like I am constantly doing that in my position. Whether it’s learning about a new line of equipment, a new route the company is planning or learning about my customers and their needs, I never fail to learn something new. I can honestly say I love what I do and where I work. I feel fortunate to be able to say that.”
Cory is grateful that J&E is such a strong supporter of training. He says, “I definitely feel like I have a clear advantage over the competition because of SEFA training. I always come back with something new and useful.”
We asked him if anyone inspires him. He said, “It’s easy to find inspiration when you have people like Jose and Alfredo Lorenzo around. They have an incredible passion that never ceases to stop. They are never complacent and this incredible drive has built a great company from the ground up. They have accomplished amazing feats in so many different aspects of their lives – you can’t know them without being inspired.”
Cory was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA. He has been married to his wife Carmen for 2 ½ years. Cory and Carmen have a 17 month old boy named Cillian Jude and Cory has an 8 year old daughter named Emma. He says he is a fairly simple guy who just enjoys being with friends and family, camping, fishing and listening to country music.
