Phil Marion, PJP,

Phil has been involved in the foodservice industry for over 25 years. He started washing dishes at the Brown Stone Inn in 1983 when he was 15 years old. He held many positions in various restaurants growing up. On top of that, many members of his family own pizza restaurants, including his two brothers. He says, “Quite frankly, I am in a restaurant 7 days a week.”
After graduating college, Phil worked for Ecolab in the Philadelphia market for 6 years. His responsibilities included calling on all kinds of foodservice businesses. He left the industry for a short time to pursue a different career, but his heart was always in foodservice. He says, “I was fortunate enough to find my way back into the industry through a past relationship and have been here ever since. Except for the three years I left, I have been selling into the foodservice industry since 1994.”
Phil has been with PJP for just over 3 years. He says, ”I have always said that a person either loves this industry or hates it. If you love this industry, as I do so much, there are endless opportunities that are there for the taking every single day. I cherish the fact that our industry still works on a hand shake and that personal relationships are what really solidify business.”
Here’s what Phil had to say about the SEFA training he receives through PJP. “I learn something new every time I attend an event that not only helps broaden my industry knowledge, but more importantly, makes me more valuable to my customers.”
We asked Phil if anyone has inspired him or helped him to get where he is today. He said, “Bill Daily – Bill spent a great deal of time with me when I started with PJP. He helped me to understand the tabletop sector of our business. He said this to me when I started…’the person that owns a customer’s tabletop…owns the account.’ His support, professionalism and industry knowledge have been tremendous!!” Phil said he was also grateful to his parents who instilled a great work ethic in him at a young age.
Phil is very happily married to wife Danele Marion of 15 years. They have 4 awesome children – Philip(13), Sam(10), Kate(8) and Grace(6). He enjoys his family and is active in coaching for little league football.
Phil was nominated by Bill Daily, PJP. Bill said, “Since joining the company three years ago, Phil has really embraced the E&S side of our business. He has learned equipment and is a member of our esteemed Tablescapes group. He is proficient in selling tabletop as well. Phil is a good family man and a valuable PJP asset.”
